DESCRIPTION:DeKalb County Earth Fest is a FREE, festive, family-friendly day of learning how decarbonizing our homes and towns can make us wealthier, healthier, and happier. Experts and community partners come from our region and beyond to introduce meaningful next steps in DeKalb County climate adaptation.\nThe second annual Earth Fest is BIGGER: morning sessions focus on putting cash in our pockets through renewable energy and electrification. A midday expo is loaded with community resources and local environmental partners, plus food trucks and a cash bar. The afternoon sessions span sustainable food systems, rewilding our yards, planning our gardens, and preserving our food. The day caps off with a happy hour and sustainable fashion Trashion Show.\nDeCarbon DeKalb & Beyond will have special guests: Chicago’s Wild Mile team will be in house – they created the world’s first ever eco-park! Trane Technologies, GoSolar815, and Citizens Utility Board are bringing their funding and decarbonization expertise. The City of DeKalb’s Citizen’s Environmental Commission will present the STARR awards and discuss the new climate resolution plan. Northern Illinois Center for Community Sustainability will host community networking and an environmental innovation research fair. NIU’s Social Justice Education Team will teach us where to start with environmental justice then do a POWER panel and provide a teen/college track. There’s a roundtable for NIU student orgs, and STEAM is highlighting the maker’s space with gardening and preserving workshops for families. There’s an art installation, roaming podcast, live music, science on the sphere, photo booths, a Meta VR pollinator experience, and more.\nYou’re invited to learn, benefit, take action, and build community at this all-day, open to the public, FREE event.
