Where can I hike in DeKalb?
DeKalb is home to 4 forest preserves, Afton, Country Farm, P.A. Nehring, and Merritt Prairie! All four offer great trails, scenery, wildlife, and picnic areas.
Are there any accessible trails?
Yes! P.A. Nehring, Country Woods, and Afton all offer paved trails that are accessible.
Can dogs join in on the adventure?
Of course! Dogs must be leashed at all times in forest preserves, except at the designated off leash area at Merritt Prairie.
What should I bring hiking?
Hiking boots or supporting shoes, water, hiking poles (if needed), a light jacket or layers (in fall or spring), hat or sunglasses, and snacks. If you are winter hiking, be sure to have to appropriate footwear for icy and snowy trails.
